Basically, I want to ban them.

However, between people throwing fits about democracy and GSF not being a competitive site (a detail I keep forgetting), I figured I should get some opinions.

Note that a ban would not affect any current titleholders with the exception of Samus. Because of the way Smash Balls affect Samus, that tournament would have to be redone, with an extra tournament for Zero Suit Samus.

I'm closing this poll at midnight tomorrow. The majority vote wins.

Note: Sock put his vote in the wrong section; he intended to vote in favor of the ban. This will be taken into account when reviewing the results.

For complete competititve reasons, yes, I agree they should be banned. They would fall into a set of challenge rules, in which the characters against one another would prove the best player of characters and not a chance of luck caused by a smash ball. Example, Jigglypuff, Iceclimbers FS is awesome on a small stage, like FD.

Ike, Link, Peach, Zelda, etc's can be dodged easily if you have had practice, and therefore less effective. So..my two cents. Rar.

Edit: HOWEVER...in mirror match tournaments I would have to say they be allowed because of the fact that the challenge is all about character control and talent. Shown by the obtaining of a smash ball and the execution of the move. One who plays well enough will be able to perform the FS correctly as such.

Well, you know I hate these things as much as Vyse does. Nothing more needs to be said.

No. Why? Because I said so!! >D

But seriously, no. Only in the case of Samus and ZSS should the smash balls be not used. In any other mirror tournament, it should be allowed because it's all about the player actually knowing how to fully the implement the character, including the final smash.

However, I believe smash balls should ONLY be allowed in mirror matches. Otherwise, it's just plain luck whether you get the ball or not. I say don't ban them, just restrict their use. That is all.

I was really determined to not say anything to influence opinions, but...

A test of skill with a character is still a test of skill. Why is it suddenly essential that an extra, possibly game-breaking element of luck be added?

How does the match being a mirror change the fact that "it's just plain luck whether you get the ball or not"?

>_< Bah, I voted in the wrong section. Is there anyone to change my vote?

Either way, I think they should be banned. There's too much luck involved, and they make the character tournaments come down to who can get the most Smash Balls. Well, for most of them. For others, like the 3D tournament, they'll probably be almost useless.

No, there's no way to change it, but I'll make note of it.

Truthfully, it doesn't. All I'm saying is that if someone is going to hold the title to a character, they should be able to fully implement their final smash against their opponent. But then again, you could always have a match without smash balls that counts towards the title, and then have a match afterwards with smash balls where the winner shows his skill of using the final smash of the character. Of course it'd be like a real match. -nods- That actually doesn't sound like a bad idea.

How about that instead, Vyse? We should just use that plan with character tournies. -nods-

The more I think about it, the less I see the Smash Ball/Final Smash as being a move; it's an item that simply reacts differently to different characters.

There's one major problem; since every other item is off, even on Low Smash Balls are far too common. In a match with all items on, they'd appear rarely, like they should. The fact is, an item like that is too common and luck-based for a tourney match of any sort.

It takes skill to use a Final Smash, hm? Well, guess what; so do Beam Swords, and Banana Peels, and Motion Sensor Bombs. It's an item, pure and simple.

Adjusting for Sock's vote... we have the same number of votes for as against. Frankly I'd expected this to pass by more than one vote, given the unpopularity of Smash Balls.

Actually, since people are screwing with the results by voting RANDOMLY when they DON'T CARE about the subject, I think I'm just gonna do what both admins want and ban Smash Balls if there's a tie.

Really, that just pisses me off.

I think that Smash Balls should remain, but maybe as an option...? You need to be good with using the Smash Ball if you want to master the character.

...However, I guess this may contradict any Final Smashes that you can perform anytime. Ness, Lucas, Pit, Peach, Olimar, and King Dedede have Final Smashes that will always work no matter where you are and require no skill to use (other than pressing the B button, heh :P ), and with everyone else you have to line it up and/or time it correctly.

It's so fucking obvious that you were told to come here and vote just to stuff the vote against the ban.

Lurking is what I do, young padawan. Even though you may not see me, I am always there. Watching. Waiting. For the right moment to pounce.

...Er, I'm at an impasse right now. I just lost to KFox in a Round Robin match because she ALWAYS got the Smash Ball. I only got the Smash Ball twice in both of our matches, and she got it at least ten times. It was not fun. =(

So, while I still do believe that Smash Balls are necessary for mastering a character, they can be really cheap. =/

...You know what? I'm against having them in character tournaments now. It is unfair if your opponent always gets it.

So, what is the tally now?

No they don't. Each person has an equal opportunity to get the Smash Ball. Your skill determines whether you'll be getting it or not.

Improve on them aerials, I'll say. :)

Well, the Patriot Lucario match I had with BS was a fun match, and if anything, the Smash Balls favoured me. BS still won despite that, but I'm not complaining. However, that doesn't stop me from wanting those things out of my Brawls.
