It was a quiet Sunday afternoon. In the course of the IRC's regular insanity, this exchange occurred.
And I did. I made a team consisting entirely of Dunsparce, each with its own special role. I then took on Doob's regular team. And lost three times. HOWEVER. Each battle was closer than the last. And then... there was this. My team: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Doob'z team: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And thus, the battle began... ------------------------- Rules: Evasion Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Sleep Clause Doob Zurz sent out Mon (lvl 100 Probopass ?). Vyse sent out Dialga (lvl 100 Dunsparce ?). KFox has entered the room. Dialga used Substitute. Dialga lost 25% of its health. Dialga made a substitute! Mon used Toxic. But it failed! --- Dialga used Stealth Rock. Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team! Mon used Thunderbolt. The substitute took damage for Dialga! --- Dialga used Stealth Rock. But it failed! Mon used Thunderbolt. The substitute took damage for Dialga! Dialga's substitute faded! ------------------------- Now, since this was the fourth time doing battle with Doob's team, I knew a few things. For example, I knew that none of his Probopass's moves could break Dialga's sub, unless he got a lucky critical hit. So I Sub, and he uses Toxic, which fails. I then set up Stealth Rock, followed by a misclick. ![]() ------------------------- Vyse switched in Groudon (lvl 100 Dunsparce ?). Mon used Thunderbolt. Groudon lost 24% of its health. --- Groudon used Curse. Groudon's speed was lowered. Groudon's attack was raised. Groudon's defence was raised. Mon used Thunderbolt. Groudon lost 23% of its health. Groudon is paralysed! It may be unable to move! --- Vyse: Again. Vyse: Really? Mon used Toxic. But it failed! Groudon used Earthquake. It's super effective! Mon lost 136% of its health. Doob Zurz's Mon fainted. Groudon lost 10% of its health. ------------------------- After getting SR set up, Dialga's job was done, so I switched to a Pokemon that could take out his Probopass: Groudon. I know he won't be KOing me, so I set up and finish him off. Unfortunately, his T-bolt manages to paralyze me before I can land the killing blow. This sort of thing happened during all of our matches; it was as though his Pokemon had Serene Grace instead of mine. Score: 6-5, my favor ------------------------- KFox: H4x Doob Zurz switched in Valuy (lvl 100 Altaria ?). Pointed stones dug into Valuy. Valuy lost 25% of its health. Valuy used Fly. Valuy flew up high! Groudon is paralysed! It can't move! Valuy's leftovers restored its health a little! Valuy restored 6% of its health. --- Valuy used Fly. Groudon lost 34% of its health. Groudon used Rock Slide. It's super effective! Valuy lost 103% of its health. Doob Zurz's Valuy fainted. Groudon lost 10% of its health. Vyse's Groudon fainted ------------------------- Doob sends in his Altaria to finish off my weakened Groudon. I try to KO it with Rock Slide, but paralysis kicks in. It's just as well, since he used Fly anyway. However, I know three things about this situatoni: Fly cannot KO Groudon unless Altaria gets a crit; he has to come back down next turn; and I'm slower than him. With that in mind, I use Rock Slide again, praying that paralysis doesn't strike again. It doesn't, and Altaria is OHKOed. Unfortunately, the Life Orb claims Groudon as well. Score: 5-4, my favor ------------------------- Doob Zurz switched in Kelvin (lvl 100 Regice). Vyse switched in Celebi (lvl 100 Dunsparce ?). Pointed stones dug into Kelvin. Kelvin lost 25% of its health. Kelvin used Focus Blast. Kelvin's attack missed! Celebi used Light Screen. A barrier was formed! --- Vyse switched in Dialga (lvl 100 Dunsparce ?). Kelvin used Focus Blast. It's super effective! Dialga lost 29% of its health. --- Kelvin used Ice Beam. Dialga lost 19% of its health. Dialga used Defense Curl. Dialga's defence was raised. --- Kelvin used Ice Beam. Dialga lost 19% of its health. Dialga used Rollout. It's super effective! Kelvin lost 24% of its health. --- Kelvin used Ice Beam. Dialga lost 17% of its health. Vyse's Dialga fainted. ------------------------- We both send in new Pokemon; as it happens, we both choose our special walls. I set up Light Screen and switch to Dialga, the only remaining Dunsparce with a physical attack that's SE against Regice.... But Dialga is KOed before he can finish the job. Score: 4-4 ------------------------- Vyse switched in Not a Dunsparce (lvl 100 Dunsparce ?). Not a Dunsparce used Thunder Wave. Kelvin is paralysed! It may be unable to move! Kelvin used Focus Blast. It's super effective! Not a Dunsparce lost 42% of its health. Not a Dunsparce's light screen wore off! --- Not a Dunsparce used Roost. Not a Dunsparce restored 50% of its health. Kelvin used Focus Blast. It's super effective! Not a Dunsparce lost 74% of its health. --- Not a Dunsparce used Headbutt. Kelvin lost 21% of its health. Kelvin is paralysed! It can't move! --- Not a Dunsparce used Headbutt. Kelvin lost 22% of its health. Kelvin used Focus Blast. It's super effective! Not a Dunsparce lost 79% of its health. Vyse's Not a Dunsparce fainted. ------------------------- With Dialga fainted, I decide to send in Not a Dunsparce, the Pokemon modeled after Dunsparce's only viable competitive set: paraflinch h4xing. With Light Screen protecting me, I paralyze it, heal up, and attempt to finish off Regice. But luck is not on my side, as Focus Blast never misses, and Regice never flinches. Paralysis did kick in once, though. At this point, I'm running out of options to take out Regice, and I know that an even greater threat lurks in Doob's team... Score: 3-4, Doob's favor ------------------------- Vyse switched in Arceus (lvl 100 Dunsparce ?). Arceus used Body Slam. Kelvin lost 20% of its health. Doob Zurz's Kelvin fainted. --- Doob Zurz switched in Ornamentio (lvl 100 Metagross). Pointed stones dug into Ornamentio. Ornamentio lost 6% of its health. Ornamentio used Hammer Arm. It's super effective! Arceus lost 86% of its health. Ornamentio's speed was lowered. Arceus used Yawn. Ornamentio became drowsy! Arceus's leftovers restored its health a little! Arceus restored 6% of its health. --- Ornamentio used Hammer Arm. It's super effective! Arceus lost 87% of its health. Vyse's Arceus fainted. Ornamentio's speed was lowered. Ornamentio fell asleep! ------------------------- I send in Arceus, my physical wall. Since Regice is paralyzed, Arceus outspeeds it and finally takes it out. Then Doob sends out his Metagross. I've seen his Metagross before, and it's not really a cause for concern, especially with Arceus on the field. Then Doob's Metagross used a move I'd never seen it use before. A SE move. That was bad. But Yawn had hit, and I noticed that Hammer Arm had lowered its speed, so I left Arceus to take another hit (and get Metagross another speed penalty). Score: 2-3, Doob ------------------------- Vyse switched in Mewtwo (lvl 100 Dunsparce ?). Mewtwo used Flamethrower. It's super effective! Ornamentio lost 81% of its health. Ornamentio is fast asleep! --- Mewtwo used Flamethrower. It's super effective! Ornamentio lost 83% of its health. Doob Zurz's Ornamentio fainted. ------------------------- I make use of my free switch-in to send out Mewtwo, my Specs'd special sweeper. Luckily, Metagross's speed has been halved, so I KO it with Flamethrower before it even gets a chance to wake up. Score: 2-2 ------------------------- Doob Zurz switched in Tiamat (lvl 100 Dragonite ?). Pointed stones dug into Tiamat. Tiamat lost 25% of its health. Vyse switched in Celebi (lvl 100 Dunsparce ?). Tiamat used Dragon Dance. Tiamat's attack was raised. Tiamat's speed was raised. --- Tiamat used Dragon Rush. Tiamat's attack missed! Celebi used Calm Mind. Celebi's special attack was raised. Celebi's special defence was raised. --- Tiamat used Dragon Rush. Tiamat's attack missed! Celebi used Thunderbolt. Tiamat lost 25% of its health. --- Tiamat used Dragon Rush. Tiamat's attack missed! Celebi used Thunderbolt. Tiamat lost 26% of its health. Tiamat is paralysed! It may be unable to move! --- Celebi used Thunderbolt. Tiamat lost 26% of its health. Doob Zurz's Tiamat fainted. ------------------------- This is where things get hairy. Doob sends out his Dragonite. Mewtwo is locked into Flamethrower, which won't do much against Nite at all. And Doob still has his Ultimate Threat waiting... I switch to Celebi, hoping that I can at least set up Light Screen (to deal with the Threat) before being KOed. Then I plan to use Mewtwo's Ice Beam to KO Nite... And from there, I just pray. Doob uses Dragon Dance on the switch. Oh, ****, I'm screwed now... Until that fickle mistress, Chance, decides to drop in again. Not only does Dragon Rush miss three times, but T-bolt paralyzes Nite, allowing Celebi to finish it off. Suddenly, things are looking much better for me. My special wall is still at full health, and I have a Calm Mind backing me. Now to face the Ultimate Threat.... ------------------------- KFox: wut Doob Zurz switched in Format (lvl 100 Porygonz). Format's Download raised its stats! Format's attack was raised. Pointed stones dug into Format. Format lost 12% of its health. Format used Tri Attack. Celebi lost 37% of its health. Celebi used Light Screen. A barrier was formed! Celebi's leftovers restored its health a little! Celebi restored 6% of its health. ------------------------- And there it is. The Ultimate Threat: Doob's Porygon-Z, which almost single-handedly destroyed my team in the past three battles. Confident in Celebi's defenses, I use the first turn to set up a fresh Light Screen. Celebi eats a Specs'd Tri-Attack, but as I thought, it doesn't do enough damage for even a 2HKO. At this point, I'm actually feeling optimistic. Score: 2-1, me ------------------------- Format used Tri Attack. Celebi lost 18% of its health. Celebi used Thunderbolt. Format lost 33% of its health. Celebi's leftovers restored its health a little! Celebi restored 6% of its health. --- Format used Tri Attack. Celebi lost 19% of its health. Celebi used Thunderbolt. Format lost 34% of its health. Celebi's leftovers restored its health a little! Celebi restored 6% of its health. --- Vyse: NO WAY Format used Tri Attack. Celebi lost 18% of its health. Celebi is paralysed! It may be unable to move! Celebi used Thunderbolt. Format lost 33% of its health. Doob Zurz's Format fainted. Vyse wins! Vyse: WOO! Vyse: GO DUNSPARCE! Vyse: IT ONLY TOOK FOUR TRIES! Doob Zurz: Teh Luckz00rz left me. KFox: Guess so Vyse: Epic. ------------------------- Celebi has a CM, Light Screen up, and Leftovers healing; Porygon-Z's Tri-Attack does negligible damage. I manage to 3HKO it with Thunderbolt, winning the match. Final Score: 2-0 And that is how Dunsparce won the day. |

I just had a revelation. Those repeated misses of Dragon Rush weren't luck. They were Dunsparce overloading Shoddy with their awesome and messing up the RNG. The only logical conclusion: Dunsparce is The One. |
