Rawr. So I've picked up Photoshop Elements 6.0, and I've been playing around with it for....maybe a cumulative total of 3 hours over a week. =D My goal: An Ike sig worthy of the tremendous load of awesome that Ike is. So I'm just going to update this topic with drafts of me playing around with various aspects of Elements, and eventually I'll be putting it all together to form my goal. Draft 1:  lol, rainbows. Just testing gradient movement and wanted to see how text would work with it. The text pfails, obviously. ~~~~~~~~~ Draft 2:  Much, MUCH better version of 1. Switched gradients, and then applied a couple of brush strokes to the above text (idea thanks to KFox's critique of Draft 1). That "Ike" text is probably going in the final version. ~~~~~~~~~ Draft 3:  Started a new approach with the "opposite sides" PoV. The picture on the right is crap. =D I'm making this a 3-part Draft, cuz I want to see how using his Ranger/Lord differences will work, as opposed to just Lord pics. So expect a part 2 and part 3 for this. Also played around with Layer styles, as noticeable from the text. I made the gradient myself, as inspired by the "Chrome" gradient...Which quite frankly sucks. Seriously, you start out with the nice blue, go into gold...and end with white? The hell? So I switched the white with another nice shade of blue, and lengthened the golden area to make a "Chrome+" gradient, as I named it myself. Forgot to mention...The most annoying part of this draft was how long it took to cut the background out of the pic on the right, yet it turns out that using Ike's entire upper body would be a better use.  ~~~~~~~~~ Draft 3-2:  ...Wow. It looked a lot better than I thought it would. I had screwed up the hilt so badly that I thought I couldn't fix it. See that gray bit to the right of the red handle? Yeah, that didn't look anything like that before I was done. It looked...mangled, dead, worthless. All because I can't work selecting things too well. But, I pulled it off. barely. The blade of the sword was made by Magic Wanding pieces from the sword in the full pic that Ike on the right came from. I also learned how to use "Add to Selection" for the Magic Wand properly, so that was awesome. Although, when I compared the "Add to Selection" method outcome to what I had done by individually Magic Wanding pieces....I dare say it was better to do everything separately. Oh, and the sword took longest, obviously. And shoutout to Doob for raising morale =D For those who saw the old version, it didn't have the text layer style. When I went back to change it, I also decided to change the sword and text positions, due to an error I made. If you've played Ike's Path of Radiance, you would know that the picture on the left represents his "Lord" form, whereas the picture on the right represents his "Ranger" form. Thus, I switched the text positions to properly label each picture. Another edit: I also forgot to mention that I cleaned up a bunch of extra pixels present on Ike's Ranger pic. Thus it may look cleaner here than in Drafts 1 and 2 to some who squint their eyes and tilt their head to the side. XD Yet another edit: I didn't like how the sword and the yellow stripe seemed to be fighting each other. Yay, Photoshop doesn't have a bending tool, so I could only get half of the rainbow! Yay! ~~~~~~~~~ So yeah, I won't be automatically switching new drafts to my sig; I just happened to really like Draft 2. At the moment, I'm searching for a couple more PoR Ike pics that I'll use, and I may dabble in a bit of Radiant Dawn and Brawl (Doob gave me a funny idea for one of Ike's attacks...Shall be shown once I decide to make it.). Hmm....As a side project, I'll try that. Seeing as how my main focus is Ike, using the BK somewhere would be good, but in the end, I just want Ike in the picture. But using those two should help me figure out how to use contrasts to make a good picture. |
