I finally gave in to the nicknaming business. Ever since Blue version, I've never once nicknamed a Pokémon unless it was for a trade. Not once. I was against it for some time, and I don't even know why. I wanted them to be called by their original names, I guess. But this evening, I finally gave in. I nicknamed my team in Pokemon Diamond. And you know what? I like it. Now then, I never really change my group, so it's the same as I posted in that one other thread. I'm just posting the names here, and why I named whoever that. Some of them are very complex to a point that you have to be me to appreciate them, and some of them are jut very simple references. So, without further ado, here is the newly nicknamed TEAM 47: Torterra = Raphael When I first got this laptop, I was excited as ever. In first turning it on, I eventually got to a screen. It said "Name your computer" or something along those lines. For some reason, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles instantly came to mind. I figured I would use this computer every day (as I do), so I named it after the most responsible one of the pack. Leonardo. Later on, it came time to name my Wii. I named it Donatello, for being the most technologically advanced. You can't name your DS, so I took a look at my head Pokémon in Diamond. Torterra. It's nature is Sassy. Just like Raphael. Blastoise = Yellostone Back when I was a little kid, I had lived off of my brothers' video games. I never had my own. That changed very early on when I got the first system that I could ever put my name on. The Game Boy. With it, the first game that I myself owned. Pokémon Blue Version. I've always loved turtles, so I chose Squirtle, naturally. I raised that thing like it was real and my own, all the way to Blastoise and beyond. It was my first Pokémon ever, and it never let me down. That Blastoise grew to be my Old Faithful. As my new one is in Diamond. I named it Yellostone. Charizard = Smaug Back in middle school, I read The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. It easily grew to be one of my favorite books of all time. At the end of the story, it's Bilbo Baggins's job to help get a pretty important treasure back from a fierce, fire-breathing dragon. That dragon was feared by all of Middle Earth. It's name? Smaug. Raichu = Rocket Back in the day, SEGA released a game called Chu Chu Rocket. That game featured several adorable mice in a pretty fun, and very different, sort of game. I loved it to death way back when. Chu, in case you couldn't guess, means mouse. And in case it's still not clear, let me just say this. Raichu chu rocket. Machamp = Zaphod I recently finished reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for the first time. I must say, it's the funniest book I've read in a long time. For a while, I had to put down the book to stop and laugh. It's quite excellent. One of the main characters of the book, some sort of Galactic President, is named Zaphod Beeblebrox. He's a two-headed, three-armed alien that's a bit of an airhead. Even though this name would likely better suit a Girafarig, I like my Machamp, and it's a great Pokémon to have around. I figured the fourth arm could make up for the lack of a second head. Farfetch'd = Hatsune There's a pretty popular program going around the Japanese internet these days. It's known as Vocaloid 2, and is a synthesized program that sings whatever songs you put into it. The main character, Hatsune Miku, a female voice, is the singer. The program has garnered many fans over just its first several months, and almost every fad-esque song has been played through Hatsune Miku. One of the first ones was the Loituma song, featured in the Leekspin fad. As such, Hatsune Miku, in fan animations, is often shown holding a leek. And where did this whole fad come from? Farfetch'd. That's right. Leekspin started with Farfetch'd. And well, that's my team. I like my choices for names very much, and wouldn't have them any other way. |

Well, I was considering making this topic myself... Hmm... I think I remember quite a few of my nicknames... I've been nicknaming my Pokemon since Red version. Most of them are pretty easy to understand... Blastoise = Bowser Feraligatr = K. Rool Empoleon = Dedede Now I just need to figure out one for Swampert to complete the set... First Bird Pokemon (In this case, Starly line) = Chirpy A tradition at this point; been doing this one since Yellow. Snorlax = Fatboyslim Another tradition. I just recalled the name one time, and I had to use it. Dragonite = Bahamut (but might change to Dracian, or even Kio) Not sure which of these three I like the most... Lucario = Clauigi You can probably figure out this one. Porygon Z = Expensive Well, this time it wasn't, but a reference to how much it takes to earn Porygon in the other gens. Gengar = Spooks Crobat = Vamp Umbreon = Lunes Blissey = Joy Just some random names... Also, sometimes when I get a Pokemon that's a Gym Leader's signature Pokemon, I name it after the Gym Leader. That's... all I can remember at this point. |

I always named my pokemon far before I knew what they would evolve into, or I like the simple happy sounding names that can make your opponents give you the weirdest look just before they get their asses kicked. Some of my favs. MewTwo- Dark Storm Had him since Red. Never changed. Lugia = Illusion Swampert = Snippit (my friend once saw me calling Snippit. He yelled "What the hell kind of name is Snippit?" and burst out into laughter. Then snippit kicked his ass.) Dratini= Beo (after Beowulf. New lil guy in Fire Red but I'm likin the name. He smiteth his opponent.) Torterra= Kip Blastoise= Flip Psyduck= Ralph Because naming a psyduck Ralph, makes me lol. |

I usually name all my Pokemon after video game characters. For example, here's some of the names from my Sapphire ROM: Houndour- Volug Blaziken- Mario Abra- Soren Taillow- Janaff Slugma- Tauroneo Numel- Garcia Cacnea- Forde Makuhita- Brom Charizard- Bahamut Venasuar- Ryusei Absol- Sothe Lairon- Gilliam ( I have another one named Gatrie. ) Swampert- Innes Snorunt- Pent Sceptile- Oscar ( I once had one named Ike, too. ) Gardevoir- Lute Dratini- Nasir Manectric- Rutger Blastoise- Steiner Medichamp- Kain ( I have three others named Pahn, Zell, and Sabin. ) Then I have some names that I just kind of came up with: Eevee- Noir ( Black in French. I'm going to evolve this one into an Umbreon. ) Eevee- Rohag ( I don't even remember how this one happened. ) Corphish- Pinch Spheal- Orpheus Carvanha- Jaws ( >_> It'd make more sense if he was a Sharpedo. ) Beldum- Beast Lapras- Helio Elekid- Leo Chinchou- Nexus Marill- Pikablu Meditite- Peter ( Not sure how this one happened. ) Hitmonlee- Zinedine ( >_> I've always wanted to give this guy Headbutt. ) Ditto- Whore ( I use it for breeding purposes. ) Ditto- Gogo And if I ever get Diamond or Pearl, I'm going to nickname my Chimchar Diddy. |

Well, I've never nicknamed Pokemon before, but while 47 was talking about nicknaming his in the IRC, I decided to go for it. However, the nicknames I chose don't have nearly as much sentimental value... In fact, I just named them all after X-Men. I'm not posting any details about my team until I've had a good battle with someone, so I'll just list the nicknames for now and edit/post the Pokemon they correspond to later.Psylocke Warpath Armor Lifeguard Storm Juggernaut |
