Yes, at last, my competitive team is complete. There are several standbys I still want to train, so that I can change things up if I want/need to, but the six Pokemon I originally planned for my team have been fully trained and evolved. I'll post what it is, with EV spreads and everything, but not until I've had a battle with someone. I want a surprise factor. Any takers? |

C'mon, won't somebody battle ol Vysey? I want to figure out his team already. I'd be willing to fight him with the PBR rental team (which is all I've got); the suspense is killing me. C'mon, somebody challenge him so we can find out that team once and for all. |

Are you actually going to give me a good battle, indi? ._. Also, I don't have PBR, SD.

Well, the battle didn't happen because Indi wouldn't agree to half of the usual standard rules. Oh well, I expected no less when I told her about the Evasion/OHKO clause.... Of course, I bet no one else here understands the reasons for the rules and will attack them blindly like everyone who doesn't understand does.... But whatever. I'll post my team anyway. Psylocke (Gardevoir) @ Wide Lens Timid 4 Def/252 SpA/252 Speed Psychic Focus Blast Hypnosis Calm Mind I originally had the Wide Lens just for Hypnosis, and Energy Ball instead of Focus Blast. Then I realized that as long as I was boosting my accuracy, I may as well take advantage of it and use Focus Blast instead. This is my lead; I use it to put something to sleep on the first turn, CM on the switch, then go to town. Storm (Zapdos) @ Leftovers Modest 4 Def/252 SpA/252 Speed T-bolt HP Ice Roost Extrasensory Standard late-game sweeper. Can come in on EQs aimed at Drapion and just start owning. Juggernaut (Tyranitar) @ Life Orb Adamant 252 Atk/4 SpD/252 Speed Dragon Dance Taunt Stone Edge Earthquake Nothing too special about this one, fairly standard. Armor (Drapion) @ Black Sludge Impish 252 HP/102 Atk/156 Def This spread guarantees that I'll survive one EQ from a CBed T-tar, which will allow me to SD and OHKO it if isn't Jolly. Winsauce. Also, screw Garchomp. Crunch Earthquake Toxic Spikes Swords Dance My physical wall. Weak only to Ground, and as my description of the EV spread indicates, I'm even capable of dealing with that, to an extent. Sets up Toxic Spikes, SDs if it can, and deals damage. Also baits EQs for getting Zapdos in. Lifeguard (Kingdra) @ Leftovers Mild 72 SpA/252 SpD/ 186 Spd This set guarantees that Kingdra will survive anything not named Draco Meteor or Dragon Pulse that is used by Salamence. It doesn't even need HP boosts. Just enough SpA to OHKO Garchomp. Agility Surf Ice Beam Dragon Pulse My special wall. I'm considering switching it for something else, though, as it has no reliable recovery move. Warpath (Infernape) @ Choice Band Adamant 188 Atk/70 SpD/252 Spd This gives exactly enough Atk to OHKO Bronzong with Flare Blitz, and it's plenty for sweeping purposes. 2HKOs Skarmory. Thunderpunch/Shadow Claw Close Combat Earthquake Flare Blitz Physical sweeper. Can't choose between T-punch and Shadow Claw. TP gives better type coverage overall, but SC is practically necessary. Without it, the only way to deal with Ghosts and Psychics is Drapion's Crunch. |

...You know what, Indi? Fine. We'll battle. No Ubers clause only. (That means the No Evasion/OHKO Clause doesn't apply.) I get home at about 4:00 Central.

Nice team. A quick suggestion though: ditch Kingra's Agility for Rain Dance. With Swift Swim, it does the same thing, but it also sups up Surf. The only problem is that it helps out other Water-types who could counter Kingra (Empoleon comes to mind) and Pokemon with Dry Skin (Toxicroak)

Wait, isn't Zapdos uber, and therefore not allowed on a real competitive team? >_> |

For a pretty good listing of who's actually in what tier, you should check http://www.smogon.com
I resent that. I'm well acquainted with the OHKO clause and the evasion clause, also the sleep, freeze, species, and item clauses. (Speaking of which, do you know if the item clause is in general use though or not with DP? I learned with that one and now I see teams with everyone holding leftovers and it makes me unhappy. >( Mebbie I should just learn to live with it.) Anyway.... Holy crud, you really got a workable HP Ice on a real-game team? On a ZAPDOS no less? O-o How'd you pull that off? I'd go with T-punch on Infernape. You don't want to be using him against (usually) fast psychics anyway, and most ghosts will take hard hits from the rest of his arsenal regardless of type. Neat team. I'd like to see it in action, but I'd have to put together something worth fighting it with. :B Edited by KFox, Jul 2 2008, 04:08 AM.

Item Clause, from what I understand, is not standard. I got incredibly lucky with my XD Zapdos (as you can tell, since it has Extrasensory). The power isn't perfect (something in the high 50s, IIRC; don't feel like checking :P), but it's more than serviceable. As for Thunderpunch... I did a bit of research, and apparently Gengar is the most popular lead right now. That makes me wary of keeping Gardevoir as my own lead, but it also makes me consider putting Shadow Claw on Infernape and making him my lead. A Scarfed Infernape should have no problem outspeeding Gengar (to my knowledge, no one Scarfs Gengar), who will almost certainly stay in to use Hypnosis or Shadow Ball on an expected switch. People expect Infernape to have Thunderpunch, but if I have Shadow Claw, I can probably take out Gengar in turn 1. Azelf is another popular lead, and the same argument applies. I'm just hesitant about replacing T-punch, as it was an egg move.... Maybe I should have it cloned before I use the TM, that way I can go back if it turns out to be a bad move. |

Sniper huh? Darn. Kingdra with Rain Dance is really good. People like to start with Gengar and Azelf? That's about as far as you can get from my starting Pokemon. >_> And I'd love to battle that team of yours, but I still need to get an Electivire or something else (probably Gengar). Depends on whether or not my brother lets me use his FireRed game. As soon as I get my Electivire back, I'll challenge you! Edited by Yaypenguins, Jul 2 2008, 06:11 PM.

So I had my first GameFAQs battle today. 5-0, my favor. A bit of poor prediction at the beginning cost me Zapdos, but I swept his whole team with Gardevoir. His whole team. That was so much fun. |

Too bad there was no log, like in the online simulators... If you're interested, I can post the details. The end was pretty awesome. |
