That's right, the rankings are like the Wii Remote Jacket: nobody cares.

In November a friend had some trouble with his laptop's power cord / socket and needed to send it in...

Following week, another friend and another laptop... the issue this time ended up being a bad battery.

Next month, yet another friend... this time the issue seemed to be a corrupted HDD. (Keep this in mind) But this particular friend has it much worse... Sends it in and receives it a couple weeks later... It runs for a good couple minutes then powers off... and the laptop itself burns to the touch... overheating... So he sends it in again, and it comes back again... it doesn't even start up! Repeat once more with a new random error... and they finally fix it. (They even extended his warranty another year, but how the hell can any company send back a non-functioning computer? WTF Acer?)

Few more to list, but I don't know exact reasons. But, I was all fine and happy that nothing had happened to mine... yet.

Wake up to find that my laptop's power keeps draining... but it's plugged in... So, run around that weekend and try to get it fixed at various places... Radio Shack even provides a replacement AC adapter said to work... and it does... for 5 minutes then stops. x.x;;

Ended up buying an external harddrive enclosure from DIT, in order to get some necessary files off... just in case. --- Though I had to dismantle half my computer to get to it x.x;; --- Also went to ShopLaptop.net (Really good service... they didn't exactly send the AC Adapter advertised... but an alternative, which actually works even better... and in only 3 days)

So one problem down... and was pretty happy, my friend's ol' corrupted harddrive... used with the external enclosure... makes a good 160GB anime drive. ^_^ But just this week... computer started randomly freezing... and I'm not sure if I have fixed that yet... (since Windows diagnostics / logs don't even report any issues with this!)

So... blah! Need laptop but hate it at the same time. >_<

Yeah they suck sometimes, but all things do this eventually. Computers more so because there are more things that can go wrong with them.

Plus--people just don't have good work ethic and don't really care. Just send it back and hope you quit bitching.

this is where good stern letter writing and talks to manufacturers and supervisors REALLY gets the job done. I'm not very efficient or learned about this but my mom is and she absolutely ROCKS with this kind of stuff.

Heh...

My mom doesn't have the best work ethic but she does know how to get others to do so... endless complaining.

And blah! Still don't believe I have this freezing issue fixed. But in good news... for the first time, EVER, my computer is at 100% wireless connection. Use to max out at 60%.

Update!

Still randomly freezing... suspected issue: Overheating?

It just has to be a hardware problem... right? Otherwise it couldn't freeze up during boot or at the bios options, right? And all system scans haven't revealed anything...

Replaced and upgraded so many drivers... system restore... etc...

Even thorough hard disk / memory scans have revealed no errors.

To err is human.

To really fuck things up takes a computer.

Solution!

But apparently I need to run in DOS because Vista is NOT supported (CONTRARY TO THE DAMN DOWNLOAD AND THE SITE ITSELF).

And I lack a floppy drive... and can't get a usb to boot properly... leaving only a cd... what a waste... so I'm holding off a bit...

And that happened to either not be it or only one of the issues!

Scan revealed several bad sectors... and fixed them. But the annoying silence with my lack of music during the time made me realize...

THE FAN IS DEAD. I have no idea what I'll do if there isn't a quick / cheap fix... and I already know Sony... since my warranty is long gone... will charge a minimum $200 to fix. That is NOT worth it for a fan!

No

And a dead fan can cause major system run errors, making it seem like you've got a bug.

I've had it happen to my computer. Things would error and shut down and it was like we had a virus that would let us on but then shut us out. Problem was the fan.

In all the excitement... guess I forgot to update. :P

So... I got lucky and my mom's bf offered to get me a laptop, since he managed to save well over $500 on the purchase of his macbook and an iMac for my mom. And well... he was feeling generous after that (and partially because of my haphazard, never used a mac before, tech support) and bought my a new laptop. ^_^

2GB RAM
160GB Hard Drive
1.9Ghz AMD Turion (x2)
15.4" Screen (Love this screen size... and the keyboard that accompanies it)
3 USB ports (3? Weird... but one is perfectly positioned for my USB mouse)
"Super" CD / DVD Drive
5-in-1 Card Reader
THE VENTS / SPEAKERS ARE NOT UNDERNEATH IT THIS TIME AROUND!

And... as posted in my topic in the art forum... a new ReBoot theme to celebrate it!
