Yakitate!! Japan is the only I anime I think should NOT be dubbed. Why? Let's look at it this way, Y!!J has a lot of puns off words in their language and puns off Japanese tradition and culture. No matter how you look at it, you simply can't take a word like 'miseries' and turn it into 'Chinese Cabbages' with the English language no matter how hard you try. In the Japanese language, however, the two words are only 1 or 2 letters apart and are pronounced almost the exact same way. And there's absolutely NO way you'd be able to connect flat bread to a guys *cough*. You just can't. It'd completely ruin everything if this anime was ever dubbed, seriously. The manga has already been translated, and I'd bet I'd be disappointed in that once I read it. SO, any anime/manga you think shouldn't be officially dubbed/translated? |

... Oh. Well, in that case...*rolls up sleeves* -Death Note. After hearing how awkwardly people say "Kira" in the show and how much charm Light lost in his dubbed voice, that dubbing should just go burn. -Pokemon. If you saw the Lucario vs. Buizel vid I posted....'nuff said. -Yu-gi-oh!, just because as with Pokemon, all of the dramatic tension and awesomeness was lost due to the dubbing. Just watch the episodes right before the Battle City tournament, with Yami's past and stuff. EPIC IN JAPANESE, FAIL IN ENGLISH. The main exception to this would be Joey's dub voice, which was done by a god. -Fate/Stay Night. I'm not sure if this has been dubbed (according to Ezekiel, it is licensed), but the characters draw too much on their voices to create an amazing anime. I can't see that many good voice actors happening anywhere in America.... -Eureka Seven. I haven't finished watching it, but it has a 14-year old main character. I do not want to imagine what dorky, whiny little kid voice would be attributed to Renton. And considering Renton talks a lot...yeah. -Lucky Star. As Kuro said with Y!!J, there are a lot of Japanese references....The show was practically made for Japan anyway. >_> It would be like putting Seinfield in a different language. |

I completely agree with most of those choices. -nods- As you said, Lucky Star would also lose meaning if it was dubbed just like Y!!J. I mean, if they do dub it, they'd probably have to put information boxes at the top to explain what they mean and what this and that is referring to just like the subbers do in both Lucky Star and Y!!J. That'd be the only way they could ever think of dubbing it, but even then, it'd still be horrible because you lose so much context and meaning. The others, while true, I don't particularly watch any of those subbed (Except Death Note. I COMPLETELY agree with Death Note), so I wouldn't really know.  Edit: Lucky Star DID get liscensed. I'd have to hear that to see how good it is....Johnny Young Bosch is awesome, but I don't think he should be voicing someone that young. |
