| We're a small community based on Super Smash Bros. Brawl. We have a ranking system, but it doesn't matter. That's right, the rankings are like the Wii Remote Jacket: nobody cares. If you're seeing this, that means you're a guest, which means you either haven't signed up or you haven't signed in. Unfortunately, we've had to disable guest posting, so if you want to contribute to our community, you'll need to have an account. If you make a new account with us, you'll be limited to posting in the Beginners forum. Once you make just one post there, you'll become a full-fledged member, and you can post wherever (and almost whatever) you want. We look forward to brawling with you! Ahem. Hello, and welcome to another edition of "GSF Awesome News," with your host, Berserker Swordsman. Today's big topic: Ranked vs unranked matches. With another sudden influx of new members thanks to the Smashboards Open, it has come to my attention that an explanation of our match system is necessary. Yes, our older members know what to say on the matter, but who wants to type the same thing over and over again? That, my friends, is where I come in. Enough introduction. -What is a ranked match? -On the GSF main site (Shown here), you'll notice the "Rankings" page. Here, the founders keep track of the wins and losses of each person. The topics marked "Ranked" count towards this rankings page. Another factor that differentiates a ranked match from an unranked match is the presence of a referee (shortened to "ref"). The referee is there to watch the match so that it goes as smoothly as possible. The only times a ref will not be present are when lag becomes an issue, and the fighters are given permission to brawl without a ref; or if one of the players is able to record the match and post it on Youtube for a ref to watch later. Also note that all tournament matches (except the Opens) count as ranked matches. Ranked matches can have any rules, so long as both players agree to them. Edit: The referee's purpose had diminished over time, and very often, you'll find yourself fighting without one. However! This does not mean that fairness and honesty do not play a role at GSF. Fight fairly and follow the rules, or you WILL be penalized. -What is an unranked match? -An unranked match simply means that you are playing for fun. Mark your challenge topic with "Unranked" to let other members know that you do not want to have a match recorded on the main site's rankings. Usually, these topics are for training or a fun idea for a Brawl. No ref is necessary for these matches. Edited by Berserker Swordsman, Oct 7 2008, 06:56 PM.
